Society Activities
Friends of Lac des Roches and Birch Lake continues to initiate activities for the well-being of the area community, in keeping with our mission statement. While our quarterly member's updates will provide updates on the status of these projects, this page will be used to provide highlights and other significant information related to our current activities.
Further Speed Restriction on Little Lac des Roches
The majority of residents on Little Lac des Roches would like to see the current speed restriction of 20 km/hr on this part of the lake, further restricted to 10 km/hr. The Society has initiated this request through our area Director of the Cariboo Regional District who will recommend the change to Transport Canada on the resident's behalf.
Soon, we will be adding more details on the rest stop signage project and we will provide a map of Lac des Roches with our suggested identification of bays and water hazards for the safety of lake users.

Environmental Education Proposal
In April 2006, we were invited to a meeting with Land and Water BC (Integrated Land Management Bureau) in Kamloops. Once again, we raised our many concerns about the proposed development and provided a copy of our own draft proposal for a more appropriate use of the land at the east end of Lac des Roches which preserves all the values inherent in the region. LWBC maintains that the development proposal is still under review.

Official Community Plan (OCP)
We recently reviewed a copy of the Interlakes OCP which includes Lac des Roches and Deep Creek (the creek between Lac des Roches and Birch Lake). Since there is no specific strategy for the land use around these lakes, we are going to develop a draft community plan for submission to the CRD, using the Interlakes OCP and the Cariboo Chilcotin Land and Resource Management Plan information as our template and guiding principles.
- We invite readers to send us comments and ideas for both of these initiatives to our email address.
Water Storage Dam
The association was also concerned and opposed to a proposal to dam the outflow of the lake for agriculture and fisheries water storage, which was subsequently refocused to another North Thompson watershed.
