2010-09-02        Logging to begin near Lac des Roches

Tolko has been granted a license to log "dead and dying timber along public corridors" in 6 blocks on both sides of Highway 24 at the east end of Lac Des Roches and north of Birch Lake. The cut blocks almost abut the Opax private property and come within 400 meters of the cabins at Birch Lake. The "prescription" is labelled "clear cut" with reserves of large diameter fir and a portion of aspen and deciduous trees. Jack Darney of Tolko says it will look similar to the logging that was done last year south of the Cariboo Regional district welcome sign, which many area residents have commented on as being not that unsightly, despite the logging is in clear view of the highway.
A simplified map showing the planned cut blocks can be seen our our website by clicking here.
